View Royal is mostly made up of residential properties many with beautiful southerly views towards Esquimalt harbour. The community is home to the Victoria General Hospital located on Helmcken Road which was named after one of the first pioneers, Dr. John Sebastian Helmcken, who was a surgeon for the Hudson's Bay Company in the mid-1800's.

Island Hwy 1A
View Royal's main commercial zone is located along the Island Hwy 1A near the border of Colwood in the west. Here you can find a number of car dealerships, fast food restaurants, the Great Canadian Casino and the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre. Towards the east on Island Hwy 1A, you can find the Fort Victoria RV Park and Campground, Four Mile House and, at the border with Esquimalt on Admirals Road, the Craigflower Manor and Schoolhouse plus a large Canadian Tire store.
