Yahk
Yahk is located approximately 42 km (26 miles) east of Creston
and 65 km (40 miles) south of Cranbrook
on Hwy 3/95. Yahk is situated on the banks of the beautiful Moyie
River.
Kingsgate,
BC - Eastport, Idaho
The Moyie River flows south to Kingsgate and the USA border town
of Eastport, Idaho about 15 minutes away on Hwy 95. Besides Kingsgate
there are also the neighbouring villages of Curzon, Ryan, Goatfell
and Glenlily that are included in the Yahk community of around 350
people (2005).
Exploring
the Countryside
Outdoor recreation is very popular in Yahk with hunting, fishing,
wildlife viewing, hiking, biking, snowmobiling and cross-country
skiing prevailing throughout the area.
Trans-Canada
Trail
For people who like to explore the countryside, the Trans-Canada
Trail follows the historic Dewdney Trail at Yahk north to Moyie
and westward as it meanders across lower British Columbia.
Walla
Walla Trail
Yahk was once an important junction of the historic Dewdney Trail
that went from Hope to Fort Steele and the Walla Walla Trail to
the American Pacific Northwest linking Canada and the USA.
"The
Collectable Highway"
Yahk has always had a colourful nostalgia for visitors travelling
in British Columbia. One reason is the all-collectable shops on
Hwy 3/95 as it goes through Yahk. If you love antiques and collectables
plus finding bargains, "The Collectable Highway" will
have something for you.
'I've
Bin to Yahk 'N Back'
When you're browsing the many shops in Yahk, make sure you pick
up the famous and sought after, 'I've Bin to Yahk 'N Back' T-shirt
available at the Grouse Mountain Variety Store. Your friends will
really get a good laugh out of it and you'll remember all the fond
memories of Yahk.
Yahk-Kingsgate
Raft Race
Besides all the recreational activities and antique stores, Yahk
is also host to the annual Yahk-Kingsgate Raft Race down the Moyie
River. This fun-filled event has been a family favourite for many
years.
Moyie
River
It usually happens on the first weekend in June depending on the
water levels in the Moyie River. You will enjoy hours of entertainment
throughout the whole weekend with other events including a pancake
breakfast and antique car called," Show & Shine."
Hawkins
Creek Watershed
You can explore all over Yahk with some excellent parks and recreational
areas in all directions. One favourite is the area directly east
of Yahk in the Hawkins Creek watershed. This area is particularly
interesting if you like rushing creeks, scenic viewpoints and large
amounts of wildlife.
America
Creek
Make sure you go to the cascading waterfalls downstream at Canuck
Creek FSR along the Hawkins Creek Road. For people who like to hunt,
the area around America Creek is very popular in the fall with a
large rustic FSR present.
Tourist
supplies and conveniences
If you decide to stay awhile in the Yahk region, most tourist supplies
and conveniences can be found right in Yahk. There is a general
store with gas available plus Yahk Hotel for food or refreshments,
riverfront campground or the Cozy Quilt Motel are handy if you don't
want to camp.

If you like the provincial park campground system, Yahk Provincial
Park is located near the Moyie River right at Yahk.
